Assess Your Attachment At Work

Discover how your early childhood experiences impact your ability to communicate, trust and progress at work.

Why Attachment?

Human attachment plays an essential role in our survival as babies, as well our relationships and overall well-being later in life. Since our attachment styles are formed so early, we neither remember much about this stage of development nor have control over it. Therefore, our attachment traits are typically subconscious
and automatic.

As a consequence, we may not realize where some of these unhealthy thoughts, feelings and behaviors are coming from and why they are repeating. That’s where understanding your attachment style comes in. When you can understand and interpret your attachment style, you can address subconscious or automatic patterns that show up in your interpersonal dynamics with others – even at work.

What Does Attachment At Work Influence?

Whether we are in the context of a personal relationship, a social group, or at work, our attachment plays a role. In relation to the workplace, we see its influence on professional relationships and team dynamics, as well as employee engagement and well-being.

  • 1. Professional Relationships And Team Dynamics

Secure workplace relationships are important for fostering a climate of trust, connectedness and cohesion in teams. Although our general attachment style may shape this, there are also organizational factors that can shape how secure we feel in the workplace.

Our attachment style may influence how we relate to others at work, form meaningful bonds and contribute to positive team dynamics.

2. Employee Engagement And Well-Being

When we feel secure at work, we are more likely to be productive, communicate confidently and take greater initiative. When we feel insecure, our enthusiasm and motivation may be diminished. Addressing challenges in attachment style can not only improve employee engagement; it can provide employees with a greater sense of belonging and purpose, which enhances well-being overall.

Creating a culture of security and support in the workplace helps to ensure all employees thrive and bring the best versions of themselves to work.

Attachment At Work: Assessment Measures

In order to capture how attachment influences you (and your team) at work, we measure general attachment, psychological well-being, and in organizations, team dynamics.

General & Workplace Attachment

Your general attachment style was formed in your early childhood, between you and your primary caregiver, and is likely to influence how you relate to yourself and others at work.

Your workplace attachment style can also be informed by previous educational or professional experiences, that either reinforce or challenge the attachment style that was formed in your early childhood.
